Hello

Material Damage and Business Interruption Insurance

Customarily June signals the start of winter, so now is a good time to arrange a maintenance check of buildings, if you haven’t already done so. Clean out gutters, hammer down nails that may have come loose and replace any seals that have come away etc. Trees are a regular source of claims, therefore have a close look at any trees that may have become top heavy and could be uprooted in high winds, it may be time to remove them and always keep trees trimmed away from buildings.

Please make use of our checklists and remember that our insurers require us to take ‘reasonable precautions’ in claim prevention.

Fire Service Levies

Some of you may be aware that, from the next renewal, central government has introduced a 39% increase to the fire service levy that is paid at the same time as insurance premiums for material damage. In addition to this there will be another increase at the following renewal; this is because the legislation also changes the sum insured basis of what is covered. In the past we have sent out notices describing how we are able to reduce the impact of these costs by working together. Our current view is that we will still be able to use the measures that we have employed in the past to help us mitigate some of the effect of the increases.

We have prepared a notice for eligible Anglican non-members, describing the benefits of joining our scheme. This notice gives more details about the effect of the changes.

We will keep you informed as we head into the next renewal.

Motor Vehicles

We have recently arranged a new service to help with motor vehicle claims processing. Crash Management is a service that will manage the entire claims process once a claim is notified. A call to 0800 2CRASH puts the process in motion.

We have listed the information Crash Management will require in the ‘Make a Claim’ tab on our website and will be shortly sending local managers brochures, stickers and information for gloveboxes and wallets.

You can read more about this service here.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or comments.

Kind regards

Dave Peters, Executive Director

Material Damage and Business Interruption – 1 January 2017 Renewal

As you will be aware, preparations for the 1 January 2017 renewal of our Material Damage and Business Interruption insurance were delayed by the 14 November 2016 Kaikoura earthquake. About four weeks went by while domestic and international insurers considered the earthquakes effect, for us this meant a delay of four weeks before we were able to renew the process of negotiating terms and conditions for our renewal. At the end of this time, and as a result of the earthquake, our domestic insurer (QBE) offered general market terms and conditions in respect to earthquake deductibles while our international insurers (Lloyd’s) continued to offer general market terms and conditions but with the advantage of a cap of $150,000 on their deductible for our large sites. This ultimately meant that the All Churches collaboration decided that 70% of our renewal would be placed with Lloyd’s and 30% would be placed with QBE. Meaning that we were able to keep the majority of our market advantage and maintain the All Churches strategy of being insured by multiple A rated insurers.

Despite the earthquake, further reductions to non Natural Disaster premiums were secured due to our favourable overall claims experience. It should be noted that the impact of the Kaikoura earthquake may see some reinsurers increasing Natural Disaster premiums through 2017.

Outside of this, other policy changes are:

Residential buildings and contents excess has been reduced to $250 (remains at $1,000 for all other claims except Natural Disaster)

‘Unlawful Substances’ cover added. This applies to buildings and contents damage from P labs etc. See the policy for full details.

Concordia Underwriting Agency, who are responsible for the renewal negotiations, have sent All Churches members (AIB) a newsletter outlining renewal events and some of the work they will be doing in 2017.

The claims process remains as outlined on our website. Please encourage your parishes and other authorised personnel to follow this process as it generally makes assessment of the claim considerably quicker and smoother.

The 2017 policy and schedule of MDBI cover can be found in the members section of our website. Interested party certificates (for your bank etc.) can be produced on request.

Liability Renewal – 1 April 2017

In the next few days you will receive your liability renewal proposal to complete and return to us prior to 1 March 2017. We require this by then so that the insurer has sufficient time to assess our premium and other terms and conditions. Currently, things are looking positive due to good overall claims experience. Provided that our disclosures do not identify a number of claims that we are not aware of, I think that we can be hopeful of reduced premiums or even better terms and conditions (such as reduced excesses) in 2017/18.

Motor Vehicle Renewal – 1 April 2017

In the next few weeks you will receive notification of your motor vehicle insurance renewal. The first step will be to update existing schedules with any changes required. You can do this at any time or you can wait and update the schedule that we will send shortly.

Board News

Don Baskerville, while remaining the Tikanga Pasifika member on AIB, stood down as chair last year and now plays a role in Concordia, as well as chairing the All Churches Insurance Bureau. Alison Jephson who has been the Tikanga Pakeha member on AIB since 2010, succeeded Don as chair of AIB.

I trust that you all had a restful Christmas and New Year and all the best for 2017 from AIB.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Material Damage and Business Interruption

Spring is the season where we often experience wild weather and sometimes this type of weather exposes maintenance issues. Please be aware that while we are covered for damage such as loss of roofing iron, trees falling into property etc our insurance does not cover maintenance or rectifying building design faults that may be exposed by poor weather.

If you have suffered property damage and need to claim, the claim process can be found on our website.

Remember to also advise us if any premises are unoccupied.

Preparations for the MDBI renewal (31 Dec) start shortly. For members with individual assets that exceed $2m, it is a good time to check that your valuation remains current (under 3 years old) or consider arranging a current insurance valuation in order to ensure that your sum insured is appropriate.

Liability

We continue to field calls from members asking how to comply with some of the changes in legislation related to liability insurance. Remember that liability cover provides a legal defense but does not cover fines imposed as a consequence of a breach of the law. ICBNZ has developed resources to help their members comply with these new regulations, the resources can be found on their website.

Motor Vehicle

If you are planning to change or upgrade your fleet, Mazda are offering members very good discounts. Details can be found in the notices section of our website under special offers.

Travel

A quick reminder that ACE/ Chubb provide us with significantly cheaper premiums than those offered when booking directly with airlines for both domestic and international travel.

If you have any questions or comments please do not hesitate to contact me.

Hello All

Material Damage and Business Interruption Insurance

It is almost the 1st of June and the official start of winter. Unfortunately for us, offences against property are more commonly carried out under the cover of darkness and the longer nights can see an increase in this sort of activity.

They say that an ounce of prevention can be worth a pound of cure, that’s especially true when it comes to security and property protection. If you haven’t done so already, the official start of winter is a good time to start regular checks of your buildings to ensure that they are as safe as possible from targeting by thieves or vandals.

If you do not have your own checklist, we have a printable security checklist on our AIB website. For instance;

“is membership of a local neighbourhood watch scheme maintained? Do neighbours have contact phone numbers that they can call 24/7?”

Liability renewal

While it was good to get a slight decrease in premiums this year to go with last years 12% reduction, we also have seen a continuation of what has been our most regular source of claim – employment disputes.

I think that it is safe to say that neither employers or employees enjoy being in conflict, it is often time consuming, costly and damaging. Many times the conflict is avoidable and to that end central government has produced information on best practices in employment – these can be found here.

Once again, an ounce of prevention can be worth a pound of cure.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or comments.

Kind regards

Hello All

Material Damage and Business Interruption Insurance

We have had some good feedback on the new documentation that was provided for the material damage and business interruption renewal. We have also taken note of what information would be useful to members via our members user portal (currently under development). We are hoping to have this portal complete during the next quarter and rolled out to members during quarter three.

Liability Insurance

Most members will be aware that there have been significant changes made to Health and Safety legislation. Our current insurers response is best expressed with this article – Ryan Clark, NZI. NZI/ Lumley are the underwriters of our liability program and Ryan Clark is head of their team. He makes some important points here.

The Interchurch Bureau have already started their Health and Safety seminars. We recommend that you get along to a presentation near you, if you have not already done so. Health Safety Workshop memo 23 March 2016 with locations

Also, we have updated our liability information sheet (thanks to Patrick Murray – Anglican Life for his feedback) which you can find here – Legal liability information sheet

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Concordia Underwriting Agency, Marsh Relationship and Renewal

Some members have asked about our relationship with Marsh brokers. I had previously sent this NOTICE to members who use Marsh as their broker which explains the position.

This notice also reiterates some of the main anticipated benefits to come from Concordia Underwriting Agency.

The current insurance market is widely regarded as ‘soft’, which pleasingly means lower premium rates. One of the other benefits of the market is that there has been a great deal of interest in providing underwriting capacity for the AllChurches policy from insurers. Consequently Concordia has been able to arrange cover, not readily available in the market, at exceptionally good premium rates.

We are presently ensuring that the premium calculations from the old system match when calculated by the new system and will likely have your invoices in your hands during next week. You then have until the end of February 2016 to either pay the full premium or make arrangements to pay on another basis.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Kind regards

Dave Peters, Executive Director

Hello

We are fast heading towards the end of the year and it has been a busy time for AIB with development of systems and relationships with Concordia Underwriting Agency. Also, we have recently held a seminar for members and the Material Damage/ Business Interruption renewal is upon us.

Seminar

Thank you to those who attended the recent seminar, we had a very successful day.

All of the presentations are now available here – programme

It would be helpful if attendees could complete and return the evaluation form to me at dave@aib.org.nz

Also, would the attendee who took a SafeHere Team Member book from the display please contact Robin Gunston if they have not done so already – robin.gunston@gmail.com

MDBI Renewal

The premiums for next years renewal should be available shortly. We are aiming to have the renewal documentation produced from Concordia Underwriting Agency’s system. System developments thereafter will be focused on web based access for members.

Registrars Conference

Along with Concordia Underwriting Agency, we are very pleased to provide sponsorship towards the costs of Tuesday nights hangi. We trust that attendees will have a valuable conference and enjoyable evening.

Kind regards

Travel Insurance Renewal

We have recently renewed the travel insurance programme with ACE Insurance NZ Ltd.

The programme is available for both business and private travel in New Zealand and abroad.

The premium is a very competitive $3.30 per person per day for domestic travel and $6.00 per person per day for international travel.

A summary of full details can be found on our website. Travel Insurance.

Material Damage Claims

Not unexpectedly, due to the adverse weather affecting some parts of the country, there have been a higher than usual number of new claims notified. In some instances members or parishes have gone ahead and arranged work to fix the damage prior to notifying the claim. Sometimes this will be necessary, particularly where an instant reaction is required to alleviate the issue or mitigate the potential of more damage. If this is the case, would members please ensure that photographic evidence is taken of the damage so it can be provided in support of the claim.

Where the damage is significant or may involve consequential loss, contact us, we will usually appoint an assessor before any work commences.

In all other instances it is important that any claim, along with quotes and relevant photographic support for the claim, is submitted for approval before any repairs etc commence. Once again, where the damage is significant or may involve consequential loss we will usually appoint an assessor before any work commences.

Please do not hesitate to contact us at anytime if you are uncertain.

Seminar

This year’s seminar is scheduled to be in Wellington on 14 October 2015. Please note your diaries. It will be a single day event and we are looking to book a venue somewhere close to the airport.

The main topic will be our new administration system. The new system will allow you to manage information about your insurances, claims, valuations etc in real time.

We, and our insurers, will also have instant access to the system in a manner that suits requirements.

As a consequence, we are anticipating considerable overall cost savings to members.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any other topic you would like to have included in the seminar.

Trustees Annual Report

The trustees annual report for the period ended 31 March 2015 is now available. The report includes AIB’s financial statements and the Chairman’s report regarding significant events from the last year, as well as some of the plans for the upcoming year. You will find the report in the notices area of the website (log on required).

Kind regards
